Taylor Swift's 'Bad Blood' Tops Another Tally & Breaks Weekly Plays Record
The track becomes the fourth No. 1 on the Adult Pop Songs chart from '1989' and rewrites the record for most weekly plays atop Pop Songs.
The honors for Taylor Swift's smash album 1989 keep on coming.
On the Billboard radio airplay charts dated July 25, fourth 1989 single "Bad Blood" crowns Adult Pop Songs and takes over at No. 1 on Pop Songs.
The track becomes the fourth No. 1 from 1989 on Adult Pop Songs, following "Shake It Off" (eight weeks on top), "Blank Space" (six) and "Style" (two). Only two other albums have yielded at least four No. 1s each on the chart: Maroon 5's Overexposed (four in 2012-13) and Katy Perry's Teenage Dream (a record five in 2010-12). (Perry is, of course, the rumored lyrical target of "Blood.")
"Blood" is Swift's fifth Adult Pop Songs No. 1 overall, as she first led with "I Knew You Were Trouble." (March 16, 2013) from her prior studio album, Red. She joins four other artists with at least five total toppers since Adult Pop Songs began in 1996: Maroon 5 (11), Perry, P!nk (eight each) and Nickelback (also five).
Meanwhile, on Pop Songs, "Blood" makes history by logging the most plays in a week ever in the chart's 22-year history. With a 1 percent gain to 17,474 plays in the week ending July 12, according to Nielsen Music, the song bests the 17,356 plays tallied by Wiz Khalifa's "See You Again," featuring Charlie Puth, on the chart dated June 13.
The plays sum for "Blood" on the latest Pop Songs chart is spread over the list's 170 reporting stations, meaning that each station played the song an average of 103 times in the list's tracking week. In other words, your local Pop Songs-reporting mainstream top 40 station, on average, played "Blood" slightly more than 14 times a day last week. Put another way, if you listened, you would've heard the song approximately every hour-and-a-half.
As previously reported, "Blood," as on Adult Pop Songs, is the fourth Pop Songs No. 1 from 1989. The set has also become the fastest to reach 5 million in U.S. sales in more than 10 years.
