Tomorrow's Hits: Jason French, Meg Mac & D.R.A.M.
Each Friday, Billboard presents Tomorrow's Hits, a weekly look at new and noteworthy acts making their way toward Billboard chart success.
Just in time for summer, new Interscope signee Jason French is bubbling under the Pop Songs airplay chart with the sunny, reggae-infused "You Just Want My Money." Belying the song's lyrical theme, the San Diego native wrote the track while trying to make ends meet when working construction (and writing music in his spare time). Now the building that he's doing is of his following, with his debut LP due later this year. –Gary Trust (@gthot20)
Australian singer/songwriter Meg Mac (full name Megan McInerney) makes her Billboard chart debut as "Roll Up Your Sleeves" starts at No. 29 on Adult Alternative Songs. The soulful piano anthem is from her self-titled debut EP, released in the U.S. in March on 300 Entertainment. Mac made her U.S. debut at SXSW earlier this year and is now on tour opening for D'Angelo and the Vanguard. –Emily White (@emwhitenoise)
D.R.A.M. shimmies 40-39 on the Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop airplay chart with "Cha Cha" (Empire Recordings). The Virginia-based singer-songwriter received Beyonce's stamp of approval in the form of a May 19 Instagram gif in which she shakes along with the track. The tune, championed by WENZ Cleveland (34 plays in the week ending June 21, according to Nielsen Music), appears on D.R.A.M.'s EP #1EpicEP, released in March. –Amaya Mendizabal (@Amayayayaya)
