Jodeci Tops Adult R&B Songs for First Time in 22 Years

Plus, Kehlani & Raekwon arrive on Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums.

R&B group Jodeci earns its first Adult R&B Songs chart-topper as “Every Moment” steps 2-1 to crown the list dated May 16 (down two percent in plays for the week ending May 3, according to Nielsen Music, but it still is awarded a bullet in its first week at No. 1).

The foursome appeared on the very first Adult R&B Songs chart (dated Sept. 18, 1993) with “Lately” and have charted a total of eight entries. With the ascent of “Every Moment,” it marks the longest wait (nearly 22 years) for any act to reach No. 1 on the list (dating to their first chart appearance). The new single is off of Jodeci’s first album in 20 years, The Past, The Present, The Future, which entered Top R&B Albums at No. 2 on the chart dated April 18. On Hot R&B Songs, “Every Moment” dips one rung to No. 16 from its No. 15 peak.

Kehlani Crashes Onto Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums: Over on Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums, the highest arrival belongs to R&B singer Kehlani, whose debut full length set You Should Be Here, enters at No. 5 (12,000 sold). The 20-year old’s robust online fan base helped her notch eight entries on the Billboard + Twitter Emerging Artists chart since last November. Her song “Down For You,” featuring BJ the Chicago Kid, reached No. 1 on the list on April 18.

Raekwon Returns: Lastly, rapper Raekwon earns the second-highest debut on Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums, coming in at No. 7 with Fly International Luxurious Art (8,000 copies). It’s the sixth top 10 title for the veteran rapper, who first landed at No. 2 with Only Build 4 Cuban Linx… in 1995.
