Ed Sheeran Snaps a No. 2 Return on Twitter Top Tracks

Plus, Britney Spears' "Tom's Diner" debuts and Sia starts in the top 10 with help from Heidi Klum.

After Ed Sheeran revealed that “Photograph” is the next single from x, the track bursts to a No. 2 re-entry on the Billboard + Twitter Top Tracks survey dated May 9. (The cut originally charted for one week in December 2014.) In addition to Twitter buzz, the tune’s fortunes were buoyed by 1 million U.S. streams for the week ending April 26, according to Nielsen Music. The “Photograph” resurgence isn’t Sheeran’s only big chart achievement this week -- his “Thinking Out Loud” (7-8) earns a 37th week on the survey, surpassing Coldplay’s “A Sky Full of Stars” for the most weeks on the young Top Tracks chart, which launched in May 2014.

Britney’s Back: Giorgio Moroder and Britney Spears grab a No. 25 debut with their remake of Suzanne Vega’s hit “Tom’s Diner,” after an unofficial version of the cover leaked on April 24. News of the leak triggered 69,000 Twitter mentions for Spears for the week ending April 26, a 60 percent weekly gain, according to Next Big Sound. Moroder and Spears’ collaboration marks the second recent Top Tracks appearance involving “Diner,” after Fall Out Boy’s “Centuries” -- which interpolates Vega’s track -- climbed to No. 5 last September. Spears’ version will appear on Moroder’s upcoming album Deja Vu, due June 12 on RCA Records.

Sia’s ‘Gasoline’ Ignites: Singer-songwriter Sia blazes to a No. 5 entry with “Fire Meet Gasoline" from her album 1000 Forms of Fear. “Gasoline” owes its strong debut to a video starring supermodel Heidi Klum and actor Pedro Pascal, best known for his role on HBO’s Game of Thrones. The clip powers the song to 1 million U.S. streams for the week ending April 26, according to Nielsen Music. Sia also nabs a No. 39 re-entry for “Big Girls Cry” following a performance of the song on the Australian TV show Sunrise and the release of a six-track remix EP on April 24. The publicity pushes “Girls” to 919,000 U.S. streams for the week, according to Nielsen Music.

Disney Awards Lift Tracks: Several tracks make gains on Top Twitter Tracks after the Radio Disney Music Awards held on April 25. Singer Natalie La Rose seizes a No. 26 debut for her Billboard Hot 100 top 10 hit “Somebody,” featuring Jeremih, after singing the track in a buzzworthy performance alongside Fifth Harmony. The track swells to 5.3 million streams for the week, according to Nielsen Music.

Other hit singles returned to Top Tracks following their award wins: Taylor Swift's “Shake It Off” returns at No. 13 after it won best song to dance to, and Selena Gomez’s “The Heart Wants What It Wants” resurfaces at No. 29 after being named best breakup song. Nick Jonas grabs a No. 49 re-entry for “Jealous” after performing the song during the ceremony.
