I Prevail's Punk Cover of Taylor Swift's 'Blank Space' Debuts on Hot Rock Songs
Post-hardcore band I Prevail's loud rendition of Taylor Swift's "Blank Space" debuts at No. 9 on Billboard's Hot Rock Songs chart, powered by 36,000 downloads sold (up 552 percent), according to Nielsen Music. The group's self-released EP, Heart vs. Mind, opens on Top Rock Albums at No. 9 and the Billboard 200 at No. 88 with 6,000 sold (up 517 percent). The EP consists of original material and is a separate release from the "Blank Space" single.
The cover was released on YouTube -- where it's now tallied more than 2.2 million worldwide views -- on Dec. 1. The song quickly built buzz and soared to No. 1 on the real-time Billboard + Twitter Emerging Artists chart on Jan. 9. The song additionally crowns Hard Rock Digital Songs, soaring 13-1, and enters the Billboard Hot 100 at No. 90.
Swift's original, from her Billboard 200-topping 1989, ranks at No. 2 on the Hot 100 for a second week after reigning for seven weeks.
"Today we charted on 24 different Billboard charts, including the Billboard Hot 100 and Billboard 200," I Prevail beamed on its Facebook page (Jan. 15). "Words cannot explain how grateful we are to have such an incredible fan base this quickly into our career."
