Calvin Harris No. 1 on Dance/Electronic Songs & Albums Charts
Calvin Harris careens onto Billboard's Dance/Electronic Albums chart at No. 1 with Motion (35,000 copies sold, according to Nielsen SoundScan). Motion, which includes cameos from Ellie Goulding, Haim and Gwen Stefani, among others, also motors onto the Billboard 200 at No. 5, marking the highest chart position and best sales week for a DJ since Skrillex's Recess debuted on April 5 (No. 4, 47,000). Motion is Harris' second Dance/Electronic Albums No. 1, following 2012's 18 Months.
Harris also hits No. 1 on Hot Dance/Electronic Songs with "Blame" (featuring John Newman) (2-1), tying Avicii as the only acts with two toppers each since the chart's Jan. 26, 2013 inception; Harris first led for four weeks earlier this year with "Summer."
Harris joins Daft Punk, Avicii and Disclosure in leading Billboard's two main dance/electronic charts simultaneously.
"Blame" also spends a third week at No. 1 on Dance/Mix Show Airplay. As previously reported, Harris becomes the first DJ to crack the Billboard Artist 100's top 10, hurtling 21-9.
Knife Party slices onto Dance/Electronic Albums at No. 2 with its first full-length, Abandon Ship. The set nets the act's second-best career sales week (8,000) despite its lack of a full tracking week or a full slate of retailers. Abandon was rush-released on iTunes on Nov. 7 instead of Nov. 24 (still its physical in-store date) following a leak. Knife Party has placed three EPs on Dance/Electronic Albums, including the No. 1 Haunted House last year.
Alesso attains his first top five on Hot Dance/Electronic Songs, as "Heroes (We Could Be)" (featuring Tove Lo) rises 7-5. The top Streaming Gainer, "Heroes" earner 1.7 million U.S. steams (71 percent from Spotify), up 45 percent, in the Nov. 3-9 tracking week, according to Nielsen BDS. The track becomes the DJ’s first top 10 on Dance/Electronic Streaming Songs (14-8) as it rises a notch on Dance/Electronic Digital Songs (5-4; 25,000 sold, up 17 percent). Alesso also scores his third top 10 on Dance Club Songs (11-6) and moves to within a spot of the top on Dance/Mix Show Airplay (3-2).
Mary Lambert leaps to No. 1 on Dance Club Songs with her first chart hit, "Secrets" (2-1). The midtempo original, which reached No. 12 on Adult Pop Songs, is boosted by uptempo remixes from Danny Verde, Jump Smokers, Harry Romero and Fedde Le Grand, among others.
FKA Twigs surges back into the top 10 on Dance/Electronic Albums with former No. 1 LP1 (13-7; 2,000 units, up 89 percent). Twigs (real name: Tahliah Barnett) made her U.S. TV debut on Nov. 4's Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, performing "Two Weeks."
