Following its Sept. 29 release, "Water" arrives atop the sales/airplay/streaming hybrid Hot Christian Songs chart, marking her first No. 1 on the survey, and flies 48-2 on the similarly multi-metric Hot Country Songs list. The track also bows atop the Country Streaming and Christian Streaming lists with 1.4 million U.S. streams, according to Nielsen BDS, and the Country Digital and Christian Digital scorecards with 125,000 downloads sold, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
Underwood previously rose as high as No. 4 on Hot Christian Songs with "Jesus, Take the Wheel" in 2006. On Hot Country Songs, "Water" (which enters the Billboard Hot 100 at No. 24) is her 20th top 10; she's yet to miss the region with any of her singles promoted to country radio.
BLAKE, LADY A BOW: Blake Shelton and Lady Antebellum bow in the top two slots, respectively, on Top Country Albums and the Billboard 200 as Shelton's Bringing Back the Sunshine starts with 101,000 sold and the trio's 747 lands with 74,000.
Blake Shelton Blasts to No. 1 on Billboard Artist 100
Shelton's set is his fourth Top Country Albums leader; all have begun at the summit. It's his second leader on the Billboard 200, preceded by Red River Blue, which bowed with 116,000 (July 30, 2011). He logged his best sales week with Based on a True Story…, which arrived with 199,000 (April 13, 2013).
Lady Antebellum's fifth studio effort (its previous four opened at No. 1 on Top Country Albums) marks its eighth consecutive top five launch. 747 starts with less than half the opening-week sales of its last album, Golden, which bowed with 167,000 (May 25, 2013). The threesome scored its best sales week when Need You Now arrived with 481,000 on Feb. 13, 2010.
Jason Aldean Heading for No. 1 on Billboard 200 Chart
'GETTIN' STARTED' (AGAIN): Jason Aldean claims his second top 10 bow in as many weeks on Hot Country Songs, where "Just Gettin' Started" does just that at No. 10. He logged his highest debut on the Oct. 11 chart with "Tonight Looks Good on You" (No. 8). Aldean's "Burnin' It Down" holds for an 11th week atop the survey; all three tracks are from his album Old Boots, New Dirt set, which is expected to bow atop the Billboard 200 and Top Country Albums next week.
'DRINKING' HOPS: On the heels of last week's invitation to join the venerated WSM-AM Nashville "Grand Ole Opry" cast, Little Big Town nabs its sixth Country Airplay top 10 with "Day Drinking" (13-10). It's the harmony quartet's first top 10 since "Tornado" peaked at No. 2 on the March 16, 2013, list. The group's chart history includes its lone No. 1, "Pontoon," which spent two weeks at the summit in 2012.
The foursome was surprised with the Opry invitation during its regular Friday night broadcast by Reba McEntire, herself a Grand Ole Opry member since 1986.
RHINESTONE TRIBUTE: The Band Perry bows at No. 54 on Country Airplay with a cover of John Hartford's 1967 chestnut "Gentle on My Mind," from the soundtrack EP to the documentary Glen Campbell…I'll Be Me, which premieres Oct. 24 in Nashville and New York. Campbell recorded the best-known cover of Hartford's song, although it has reportedly been covered by more than 300 artists.
