'RED LIGHTS' GOES: Tiesto, in his debut week, matches the peak of his previous single, "Take Me," on Dance/Electronic Songs with his latest, the unconventional-for-him, pop-stylized "Red Lights" (No. 19). "Lights" features an uncredited male vocalist and guitars, reminiscent of Avicii's "Hey Brother" and "Wake Me Up!"
Tiesto's chart action is powered heavily by digital sales, with the track entering Dance/Electronic Digital Songs at No. 9 (14,000). Of 15 chart hits on that list, this is the Dutch DJ's second top 10, following "Feel It," which reached No. 7 in 2010.
'BROTHER'-LY LOVE: Dance/Electronic Songs Streaming Gainer Avicii is up a notch with "Hey Brother" (8-7). The cut also climbs one spot (also to a new peak) on Dance/Electronic Streaming Songs (9-8). Of the song's 1.1 million U.S. steams, according to Nielsen BDS, 51% are from Spotify, 30% from Vevo, 11% from YouTube and 6% from Slacker.
"Brother" holds at No. 4 on Dance/Mix Show Airplay, while it's pushed down a step on Dance/Electronic Digital Songs (4-5), even though it posts a 15% gain (to 29,000).
'UN'-CONTESTED: Katy Perry scores her 12th consecutive (and overall) No. 1 on Dance Club Songs with "Unconditionally," extending her record for the most leaders in a row by an artist in the chart's 37-year history. The streak, which began with "Waking Up in Vegas" in August 2009, includes all of Perry's chart hits after her first two, 2008's "I Kissed a Girl" (No. 25) and "Hot N Cold" (No. 32).
A ballad in its original form, "Unconditionally" was remixed by a variety of DJs, including Syn Cole, Manufactured Superstars, Tracy Young and Country Club Martini Crew. While not released commercially, these dance versions were serviced to club DJs.
With her 12th No. 1, Perry's march up the list of acts with the most Dance Club Songs No. 1s continues, as she ties Enrique Iglesias for 11th place. From the chart's Aug. 28, 1976, start as a national survey through this week, here are the artists with the list's most toppers:
19, Janet Jackson
16, Mariah Carey
16, Kristine W
15, Donna Summer
14, Jennifer Lopez
13, Whitney Houston
13, Lady Gaga
12, Enrique Iglesias
12, Katy Perry
Perry is slated to follow "Unconditionally" with "Dark Horse," which has been given the remix treatment from GoldHouse thus far. Will it become her lucky No. 13? Stay tuned in the new year.
