Katy Perry Returns to No. 1 on Billboard's Social 50 Chart

Perry reaches the top spot after debuting the music video for "Prism" lead single "Roar."

Billboard's Social 50 chart has a new No. 1 this week, as Katy Perry returns to the top for the first time in more than a year.

The Social 50 ranks the most popular artists on YouTube, Vevo, Facebook, Twitter, SoundCloud, Wikipedia, Myspace and Instagram. The chart's methodology blends weekly additions of friends/fans/followers along with artist page views, song plays and reactions as measured by music analytics company Next Big Sound.

The debut of Perry's music video for "Roar" prompts her 6-1 jump this week, as she added 947,000 new fans overall (up 2%). Her VEVO channel saw a 440% increase in weekly views, bringing her global play count to 108 million for the week.

This is Perry's second week at No. 1 -- but first in more than a year. She was atop the list in July of 2012, amidst social buzz surrounding the release of her big-screen concert film, "Katy Perry: Part of Me."

Meanwhile, Lil Wayne surges up the Social 50 chart, breaking the top five (29-5) amidst a plethora of online activity surrounding two major releases: the Rich Gang "We Been On" VEVO music video where Lil Wayne is featured, and the fifth installment of his "Dedication" mixtape series.

While the "We Been On" video has only been viewed 62,000 views to date since its Sept. 4 debut, it helped drive an increase (580%) in traffic to the other videos on Lil Wayne's channel. It received 118 million global views for the week.

Also helping to generate online traffic is Lil Wayne's "Dedication 5" mixtape, which was released on Sept. 1. It has been downloaded more than 858,000 times via the mixtape sharing site datpiff.com, instantly becoming one of the site’s top downloads for the week. The activity helped add to his overall fanbase, which increased by 252,000, a slight (6%) decrease over the total amount he gained in the previous week.

Eminem continues his climb up the Social 50 as well, rising 10-3 from continued online activity surrounding his new single "Berzerk." During the week, the song’s momentum was carried by a lyric video which debuted Sept. 6.

The next day, Eminem appeared on ESPN’s broadcast of the Notre Dame-Michigan college football game and (rather awkwardly) both promoted his upcoming album "The Marshall Mathers LP 2" and gave praise to announcer Brent Musburger.

For the week, Eminem manages to add 662,000 new followers to his overall fan base, a 44% increase over what he added in the previous week. Meanwhile, the lyric video debut continues to help him see a steady increase in weekly video plays (a 133% increase this week).

To recap the top 10, One Direction is displaced (1-2) by Perry while Taylor Swift dips (4-5) in the wake of Eminem's climb. Justin Timberlake falls (3-6) along with Miley Cyrus (2-8).

Ariana Grande continues her climb in the wake of her debut album, "Yours Truly," hitting No. 1 on the Billboard 200. This week Grande ascends 11-7, re-entering the top 10 to tie her highest position reached yet. Rihanna makes a nine-position rebound (18-9) to re-enter the top 10 as Shakira dips to anchor at No. 10.
