On a day packed with new releases, Troye Sivan bested challengers to take the No. 1 slot on the real-time Billboard + Twitter Trending 140 chart with “Fools,” after dropping the song’s emotional music video.
The clip is the second installment of Sivan’s “Blue Neighbourhood” trilogy, which chronicles the progression of a rocky romantic relationship between two male friends. Sivan released “Wild,” the first segment, on Sept. 3. Both “Fools” and “Wild” feature on the singer’s latest EP, Wild, which was released Sept. 4. The set debuted at No. 5 on the Billboard 200 and earned significant praise from Taylor Swift and Sam Smith, among others, on social media.
Janet’s on Fire: Janet Jackson continued her Unbreakable album preview by dropping one of the set’s most anticipated tracks, “BurnItUp!,” which features Missy Elliott on Friday (Sept. 25.) The explosive cut – bursting with club-ready beats, sleek vocals from Jackson and a commanding presence from Missy – scorched a trail to No. 1 on the Trending 140 before settling into an extended run at No. 2.
The single reunites Jackson and Elliott, who previously teamed up for the single “Son of a Gun” in 2001 from the pop superstar’s All for You album. In addition, both artists have shied away from releasing many works in the past years – Unbreakable marks Jackson’s first studio album since 2008’s Discipline, while Elliott hasn’t issued a new studio set since The Cookbook in July of 2005.
“BurnItUp!” marks the third preview song from Unbreakable. Jackson issued the set’s lead single “No Sleeep,” with help from J. Cole, in June, and released the album’s title track on Sept. 3. The diva also teased a snippet of another album cut, “The Great Forever” in August.
Unbreakable will be released Oct. 2.
