Sturgill Simpson to Participate in 'Sound & Fury' San Diego Comic-Con Panel
Grammy-winning singer/songwriter Sturgill Simpson will make an appearance at this year's San Diego Comic-Con, it was announced Monday (July 8). Simpson is set to participate in a panel titled “Sound & Fury: Creators of Animatrix and Batman Ninja Unite for Sturgill Simpson” with Takashi Okazaki (creator of Japanese manga series Afro Samurai) and Junpei Mizusaki (director of Batman Ninja).
The three have collaborated on the upcoming film Sound & Fury, a project that promises to "merge American rock music and Japanese anime in a way never seen before," according to a press release.
Further details about the film and Simpson's involvement in it will be revealed at the panel on July 20, along with its debut trailer.
This is not Simpson's first venture into making music for the silver screen: He created the titular track to Jim Jarmusch's zombie thriller The Dead Don't Die last month. The song was his first release since 2016's A Sailor's Guide to Earth, which won best country album at the 2017 Grammy Awards.
