Two days after he turns 18, American Idol winner Laine Hardy will make his music festival debut on the large Grandview stage at the fifth annual KAABOO in Del Mar, Calif. at 3pm on Saturday (Sept. 14). Festival organizers reserved the slot months before the singing competition's season 18 finale, ensuring the winner would be there.

“It will be the first major festival I’ve had a chance to play,” Hardy tells Billboard. “I’m really excited to perform but I’m also looking forward to hanging out and watching several of the other bands.” Hardy joins an already stacked roster that includes Kings of LeonDave Matthews BandMumford & SonsDuran DuranMaren Morris and OneRepublic

“American Idol is an iconic part of American pop culture and has hatched a significant amount of talent,” KAABOO partner and chief branding officer Jason Felts tells Billboard. The festival has a discovery program that identifies local talent in Southern California, and says organizers "thought it would be a really great opportunity to highlight the winner of American Idol this year."

Hardy will be playing to his largest live audience yet, telling Billboard. “This is my dream come true. It’s all I have ever wanted to do since I was a young kid. The biggest festival near where I grew up is New Orleans Jazz Fest, but I have never been. Hopefully we can play there some day.”
