Sound Talent Group, the independent booking agency launched by former UTA Agents Dave Shapiro, Tim Borror and Matt Andersen in November, has hired veteran agent Randy Salcedo to handle international bookings for STG’s growing roster of clients.

Salcedo brings his clients The Sounds, INXS and RavenEye to STG after 17 years at Creative Artists Agency and follows the hiring of John Pantle, who joined the company in November after nine years at APA.

“I worked with Randy on a few things over the years and I've always just found him to be a really likable, transparent, straightforward guy,” Borror tells Billboard. Borror's client Zakk Wylde from Black Label Society is part of Steve Vai's Generation Axe tour, which Salcedo represents.

“He had been out of CAA for a minute and was trying to figure out where he wanted to go and it became a really easy, organic conversation about whether he could be a fit here with what Dave and I are doing," Borror tells Billboard.

Salcedo’s expertise is international touring, Borror explained, which filled a need for STG which represents dozens of established touring acts like Corrosion of Conformity, Duff McKagan, Killswitch Engage, Sum 41 and Travis Pastrana’s actions sports show Nitro Circus.

"Where there's a need, whether it's through artists we sign or artists that we already work with and are looking for a fresh opportunity, Randy (Salcedo) is an option to be able to help us have a world view on our artists," Borror said.

The announcement comes as more of the major agencies look to strengthen their international booking teams -- on Monday, Paradigm announced it had purchased a controlling interest in UK-based Coda which shared more than 400 clients with Paradigm and will now operate under the Paradigm banner.

"It’s different for each artist," Borror explains. "A lot of bands have agents in the UK and there are a number of agents at the major agencies that are booking international dates out of New York or LA. It's all about people having the relationships in these different territories to be able to get the work done. Randy has the right attitude and experience that matches what Dave and I are trying to do."

Salcedo will be based in LA and work out of STG’s offices (inside an airplane hangar that houses Shapiro’s plane) in San Diego.

Salcedo started with STG in early July, Shapiro explained, adding that the agency has really begun to hit its stride.

"We've been getting a lot of support and a lot of goodwill out there and I think that we've been doing things the right way," Shapiro tells Billboard. "We've been being above board with people and trying to play nice in the sandbox with everyone. We just want to wake up and fight for our artists and work hard. It's that simple and a, and we want to have fun doing it."
