"As the temperature heats up, so does the speculation over what will become this year's song of summer," said Pandora vp brand marketing & communications Brad Minor in a statement. "The reality is, everyone's song of summer is different and is revealed over time. At Pandora, we want to create inspiring experiences on our platform -- and out in the world -- to empower our listeners to discover the unique summer soundtrack that helps them live their lives at full volume."
To kick off the campaign, Pandora is teaming with Khaled for a “Sound of Summer” kick-off party on May 22, the first in a series of events slated to take place across the country. Future events will feature Maren Morris, Thomas Rhett, Natti Natasha and Dalex and be capped off by a surprise performance featuring “one of the biggest names in music,” according to the company. Other “Sound of Summer” activations are set to unfurl at Hangout Fest, Electric Forest, Firefly Music Festival, Bumbershoot Music & Arts Festival, CMA Fest and WorldPride.
Additionally, Pandora has unveiled a playlist entitled "2019: Songs of Your Summer,” which features “song of the summer” predictions based on data and insights from the company’s team of music curators. The playlist includes songs by Daddy Yankee, Billie Eilish, Ariana Grande, Shawn Mendes, Taylor Swift, BLACKPINK, Luke Combs and Khaled.
As part of the "Sound of Summer" campaign kick-off, Pandora previously unveiled a mural by street artist Lexi Bella that was inspired by Khaled's eleventh studio album, Father of Asahd. Located on New York's Lower East Side, the mural includes a QR code pointing pedestrians to an “immersive audio-visual experience" tagged to the album.
