SoundCloud has added a host of curated playlists to its service, allowing streaming platform's users to more easily discover new music. In addition, the company will now feature community profile pages, designed to bring together fans and curators who share the same musical tastes.

Though playlists on SoundCloud aren't a new offering (popular current ones include "SoundCloud Weekly" and Fresh Pressed"), the company announced on Wednesday (March 27) it will now deliver an even deeper curated experience to listeners via a brand-new collection of handcrafted playlists. These include:

- "The Feed," which will curate the SoundCloud likes, follows and reposts of a particular artist (first up: hip-hop artist JuiceWrld).

- "Noise and 808s", featuring "new, new beats from the loudest names in rap."

- "The Morning Mourning Playlist," which is -- as a description reads -- "for everyone who agrees: mornings suck."

- "DTFunk," designed to be "your soundtrack for a freaky first date."

- "Speed Bumps," featuring rapid electro from around the world.

- "Drippin¨," for the latest in rap and hip-hop.

To curate these playlists, SoundCloud has enlisted a bevy of trusted music industry professionals, including former Pitchfork editor-in-chief Mark Richardson, electronic music journalist and critic Philip Sherburne and music journalists Sowmya Krishnamurthy and David Turner. The playlist expansion also offers increased visibility to emerging SoundCloud creators, who will now have even more opportunities to be featured and reach new fans.

SoundCloud also announced its new community profile pages, where listeners can interact with curators and other fans who share their musical interests. The list of community pages includes "Hustle" (for hip-hop aficionados), "Scenes" (for those who prefer "lowkey" vibes), "The Peak" (for fans of electronic dance music) and "Shine" (for lovers of straight-up pop).

The news follows SoundCloud's announcement on Tuesday that the company has hired former Apple Music subscription marketing head Anthony Gabriele, who joins the service as senior vp subscription and marketing. The hire is part of a larger push to convert more of SoundCloud's 175 million-plus user base to paying subscribers via their SoundCloud Go and Soundcloud Go+ plans.
