Mk.gee Signs With IAMSOUND Records, Shares New Single 'Untitled'

The emerging artist is the first signee under IAMSOUND's joint venture with Interscope.

Singer-songwriter-producer Mk.gee has signed with Los Angeles-based record label and creative agency IAMSOUND, the company announced Friday (Dec. 6). He is the first artist to be signed under the company’s joint venture agreement with Interscope Records.

“Mk.gee is an incredibly talented artist and producer, and we’re thrilled to welcome him to the IAMSOUND & Interscope team,” said IAMSOUND in a statement. “We’ve been a huge fan of his work since his very first release and this next chapter of his career is one we’re excited to be joining him on.”

Along with the announcement, IAMSOUND is sharing Mk.gee’s latest single, an experimental track called “Untitled.” Self-produced and performed by Mk.gee, the song blends elements of ambient electronic music and late-'70s pop, with lyrics inspired by the singer-songwriter’s frustration over blind faith in astrology.

"The song is just about the fascination of ‘the right time’ or the ‘wrong time’ in relationships,” said Mk.gee. “People put a lot of weight on timing and horoscopes, it’s great to hear the reason why something did or didn’t work out. We love the certainty. Not that I believe or don’t believe in star signs, I just think it’s awfully funny, you know. To have a 3rd party website tell you that you can or can’t be with someone."

Mk.gee first came to public attention when his song “You” was played on Frank Ocean’s Beats 1 show blonded RADIO; that was followed by a performance spot at the Pitchfork Music Festival Paris in November. He is currently at work on his first project for IAMSOUND/Interscope and last year released two EPs, Pronounced McGee and Fool. He will embark on his very first U.S. headlining tour next April.
