The one-two punch of Justin Bieber and The Weeknd has given the singers a solid lock on the Billboard + Twitter Trending 140.

The buzzed-about release of Justin Bieber’s “What Do You Mean?” -- ushered in by a month-long awareness campaign by the singer and his famous friends -- has given the song a stronghold at No. 1 on the real-time Billboard + Twitter Trending 140 chart Friday (Aug. 28).

Since the song’s lyric video upload and release to streaming outlets around 7 a.m. ET, “Mean” logged six straight hours as the day’s most shared track, nearly double the length of its nearest competitor (5 Seconds of Summer’s “Jet Black Heart”).

Part of the huge first-day numbers of “Mean” come from its extensive social media promotion. For the past month, Bieber recruited several celebrity friends to each post an image with the number of days remaining until the song’s release. Among the heavy hitters participating in the campaign: Ariana Grande, Britney Spears, Ed Sheeran and Ellen DeGeneres.

“Mean” is poised to continue its strong showing throughout the weekend. The pop superstar will perform the track during the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards on Aug. 30 and drop the song’s music video following the broadcast.

Meanwhile, The Weeknd’s album release sparks several cuts’ entries onto the Trending 140, led by “Prisoner,” which features Lana Del Rey and climbed to No. 2 on the real-time list. The duet features on the R&B star’s sophomore album, Beauty Behind the Madness, released Friday. The set’s release renews the album’s singles on the real-time charts, with “The Hills”, “Often” and the Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 hit “Can’t Feel My Face” returning to the top 10 of the Trending 140.

As with Bieber, The Weeknd also looks to maintain his strong real-time standing thanks to an upcoming performance on the MTV Video Music Awards (Aug. 30).
