Billboard Twitter Emerging Picks of the Week: Against the Current, Hannah Diamond and Will Butler

Warm up this weekend with Billboard's latest triple offering of tracks that all debuted on this week's Billboard + Twitter Emerging Artists chart. Be sure to give them a listen, and check back next week for a new set of selections.

"Take My Side" – Will Butler
The Arcade Fire member embarks on his solo career with "Take My Side," the first single from his solo debut album, Policy (Merge). A vintage rock-and-roll production forms the basis of "Side," as a dynamic set of guitars clashes with a consistent, thumping backing. Above the energetic beat, Butler glides through a playful vocal as he wonders to a companion, "Are you gonna take my side? / Are you gonna be on my side or their side?" One group definitely on Butler's side: Twitter users. Since debuting on SoundCloud on Nov. 21, Butler's single has collected nearly 87,000 views. The buzz translated into a strong debut as "Side" blazed onto the Emerging Artists chart at No. 20 for the week ending Dec. 13. For Arcade Fire fans, the song boasts an extra treat – pay close attention to the opening lyrics, which allude to a few of the band's previous songs. Policy is set for release in March 2015.

"Something You Need (Acoustic Version)" – Against the Current
Having recorded successful YouTube covers of Mariah Carey and Taylor Swift hits, Against the Current arrives on the Emerging Artists chart with an original recording, "Something You Need." The track flaunts a blistering vocal from the trio's lead singer, Chrissy Costanza, whose performance draws favorable comparisons to the alluring spunk of Paramore's Hayley Williams. Bandmates Will Ferri and Daniel Gow support the vocal with a catchy soft rock-pop guitar and drum pattern. Listeners certainly found a 'need' for the track: since the video for the track's acoustic version reached YouTube on Nov. 27, it has notched more than 152,000 views. The social buzz migrated onto Twitter, where activity surrounding the song triggered a No. 43 debut on the Emerging Artists chart. "Something You Need (Acoustic Version)" features on the group's EP Infinity (Acoustic Versions), which was released Nov. 27.

"Every Night" – Hannah Diamond
Perhaps no song this year captures the essence of pop music quite like "Every Night" (PC Music). Kicked off with a teaser of electrosynth music, Diamond's track boasts a bubbly, electronic vibe reminiscent of summer hits such as "All About That Bass" and "Call Me Maybe." Atop the production, the singer's London accent dominates the staccato vocal, with each word of the chorus paired with a synthesizer note as Diamond reveals, "I want to see you every night/ And feel your heart beat next to mine." The polished track resonated with listeners, who have tallied nearly 200,000 plays of the track on SoundCloud since Nov. 23. In addition, the track's No. 28 debut on Emerging Artists grants the young singer her first Billboard chart entry. Another first for Diamond -- "Every Night" becomes the first iTunes-available single for her Internet-based record label, PC Music.
