Publishing Briefs: UMG Inks Deal With Brazilian YouTube Star KondZilla, Maxim Signs With Peermusic UK

Universal Music Publishing announced a publishing alliance with YouTube star Konrad Dantas, Billboard announced August 30.

Dantas runs the YouTube channel KondZilla, which has amassed over 51 million subscribers. Dantas is known for introducing the Sao Paulo funk genre, ostentação, to the mainstream. KondZilla Films, KondZilla Records, KondZilla Licensing and KondZilla.com are all apart of Dantas' repetoire. UMG will now oversee the administration of his publishing rights.

“Konrad Dantas is a true force of nature," said Managing Director of UMPG Brazil Marcelo Falcão in a statement. "His passion and commitment to his dream were much bigger than the difficult circumstances he was born and raised in, and he has since created an empire that shared Brazilian funk music throughout the world.”

 


 

peermusic U.K. signed writer, producer and vocalist Maxim (also known as Maxim Reality) to an exclusive worldwide publishing deal, the company announced September 6. The agreement encompasses future works as well as Maxim’s entire back catalog, including his Prodigy hits "Breathe," "Poison" and "Omen," and previous solo albums. peermusic will also partner with Maxim for a joint venture as part of the deal, allowing him to sign and develop writers to his own publishing company Red Room Arts Limited.

“From his era-defining songs with the Prodigy to his boundary-pushing work as a solo artist, Maxim has always fearlessly pursued his singular artistic vision. I’m thankful to Richard for all his hard work to get this deal done, and I’m thrilled to welcome Maxim to the peermusic family,” said Nigel Elderton, President, Europe & Managing Director in a press release.

Twelve6 Entertainment announced a partnership with Downtown Music Publishing on September 12. The two companies have signed a publishing administration deal, and additionally, created a new joint venture. Downtown will provide creative and administration services globally to Nashville-based Twelve6’s roster of songwriters and artists, including Old Dominion’s Trevor Rosen and Jerry Flowers. The joint venture between the two companies will focus on identifying and signing talent. Monument Records recording artist and songwriter Alex Hall is the first signing under this new partnership.

Hailing from Gainesville, Georgia, Hall just released his debut track, “Half Past You,” and is currently recording his full debut project, produced by multi-Grammy award winner Shane McAnally, Pete Good, and AJ Babcock.
