Sony/ATV Signs Worldwide Deal With 'Toxic' Songwriter Cathy Dennis
Sony/ATV announced the signing of a worldwide deal with songwriter Cathy Dennis on Tuesday (Feb. 5). The agreement extends Sony/ATV's representation of her many classic tracks, including “Can’t Get You Out Of My Head” (Kylie Minogue), “I Kissed A Girl” (Katy Perry) and “Toxic” (Britney Spears), plus adds songs not previously published by the company.
“I’m very excited to be back working with the team at Sony/ATV," said Dennis in a statement. "Most of my biggest successes of my 30-year career came whilst previously signed here. It feels like the perfect time to be back with them and I’m in a great place creatively."
"Cathy Dennis was first signed to this company in 1989 when her debut single was released, so we are very excited that we have not only renewed our existing deal with Cathy but we will look after other songs in her catalogue for the first time," added Fran Malyan, Sony/ATV svp A&R/catalogue. "This includes new songs that mark a real return to form and will enhance her reputation as one of the UK’s best songwriters."
In addition to her songwriting accolades, Dennis also found success as a U.K. popstar with hit singles "Just Another Dream," "Touch Me (All Night Long)" and "Too Many Walls" breaking the top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100.
"Having written some of the most unforgettable and timeless hit songs, it is an honour and privilege to welcome Cathy back to Sony/ATV. Her energy and drive is contagious and we cannot wait for this new chapter to
start," said David Ventura, head of A&R U.K. at Sony/ATV.
