Peter Gray has been named executive vp and head of promotion at Columbia Records, sources tell Billboard. That marks a return to Sony Music for the executive, who worked at RCA Music Group between 2002 and 2011, rising to senior vp promotion.

Gray most recently served as executive vp and GM at Warner Bros. Records, where he worked for seven years before departing in October of last year.

He began his career as a vp at Tristate Promotion, where he helped develop successful radio campaigns for artists including Nelly Furtado and Jimmy Eat World. He also served a two-year term as president of the City of Hope's Music, Film and Entertainment Industry Board, a post he completed in December 2017.

In both 2012 and 2013, Gray was named to Billboard's 40 Under 40 list for helping drive the radio success of acts including Macklemore & Ryan LewisMuse and The Black Keys.
