Executive Turntable: Moves at Peermusic, AG Artists and Country Music Association

Kathy Spanberger, president, peermusic announced on Tuesday (Aug. 6) that the company has promoted Tuff Morgan to vp of A&R. In his new position, Morgan will lead peermusic’s A&R efforts in the Pop and Urban genres for the company’s US offices. He will continue to be based out of the company’s Burbank offices and will report to Spanberger. Under Morgan, peermusic's  Salaam Remi (Nas, Amy Winehouse, Alicia Keys), James Poyser (Lauryn Hill, Rihanna) and the Audibles (Justin Bieber, Sam Smith) roster of songwriters. 

“It is very rare to find an executive that has Tuff’s skill set,” said Spanberger. “His background as an artist and songwriter gives him the sensitivity and creativity to work well with the creativity community but that innate skill is coupled with a razor sharp and transparent business mind that gives our clients the information they need to make sound decisions about their careers. Andrew Gertler Artists announce last Friday (Aug. 2) that Sylvie Konner has been promoted to manager, digital marketing. Sylvie, originally from Montclair NJ, began her career with AG artists as a management assistant immediately upon graduating from Indiana University in 2016. Konner worked with manager Andrew Gertler and the AG team to manage digital channels for the company, its clients and their various platforms. Recent successes include major digital and real-world campaigns for Shawn Mendes' recent singles “If I Can’t Have You” and record breaking “Señorita” with Camila Cabello. Konner's promotion also reflects her work on ShawnAccess, growing the fan platform on socials and finding new ways to engage global audiences. With ShawnAccess, Konner and the Mendes team utilize the platform to deepen the artist-to-fan relationship, and give fans a firsthand look at Shawn's career and daily life, including his sold-out World Tour which will hit over 100 dates worldwide and reach over 1 million fans over the course of 2019.

The Country Music Association has announced several promotions and hew hires. 

Ben Balch has been promoted to director, accounting & financial planning; Mary Overend to director, marketing & consumer engagement; Kris Kennedy to live events producer; Chris Harrington to senior manager, live events; Brenden Oliver to senior manager, awards & industry relations; Greg Pitman to senior manager, production; Angi Brown to accounts payable manager; MaryAnn Dicks to finance & administration manager; Haley Steinbuchel to partnerships project manager; Katie Storey to live events project manager; Lisa Valentine to communications project manager; and Taylor Viegut to digital marketing project manager.

CMA has also announced the addition of Melissa Hewett as vp, human resources; Sara Stile as marketing & media manager, Julie Anne Jacobs as communications coordinator, and Michael Jennings as marketing coordinator. Katherine Wong, formerly marketing & social coordinator, has assumed a new position as international relations coordinator.

 


 

Eventbrite has made Lanny Baker its chief financial officer, effective Sept. 3. Baker will succeed Randy Befumo, who has held a position at Eventbrite since 2013, and served as Eventbrite's chief financial officer since 2016.

“I can’t think of a better partner than Lanny to help lead the company through our next phase of growth,” said Eventbrite co-founder and ceo Julia Hartz. “His experience scaling high-growth public companies and deep knowledge of how technology platforms can transform industries will be instrumental in helping us continue to drive sustainable long-term growth and value for our shareholders.”

Baker's appointment is one of a string of new hires in Eventbrite's music division. The ticketer has added account executive Luke Cahill, product marketing manager Heather Ellis, digital marketing manager Tessa Morris, director of engineering James Reichardt and music partnerships Jon Wilson.

 


 

The Music Business Association (Music Biz) announced on Thursday that longtime president James Donio is stepping down after 15 years. Donio will remain in an advisory role, and will be succeeded by Kill Rock Stars label head Dr. Portia Sabin beginning on Sept. 3. Donio joined Music Biz in 1988 and first served as director of creative services prior to being named president of the organization in 2003. 

"He has passionately guided the organization through any number of seismic industry changes and challenges during his tenure: the shift from a singular focus on the physical business to a broader identity embracing all forms of music consumption; a complete rebranding as the Music Business Association in 2013; and moving the annual Music Biz Conference to Nashville in 2015," said Music Biz board chairman Matt Signore. "The Conference has steadily grown in size, scope and recognition, with the 2019 event being the largest and most successful in 20 years."

Added Donio, "I have spent literally half of my life at this Association, and the memorable experiences I’ve had and the close relationships and friendships I’ve made in the industry are irreplaceable."
