Darius Rucker Hoists 'Beers and Sunshine' to No. 1 on Country Airplay Chart

'To have nine No. 1 songs is more than a dream come true,' he tells Billboard.

Darius Rucker's "Beers and Sunshine" ascends 3-1 on Billboard's Country Airplay chart (dated Feb. 27), up 5% to 28.3 million impressions in the week ending Feb. 21, according to MRC Data.

Rucker wrote the song, his ninth leader on the list, with Ross CoppermanJ.T. Harding and Josh Osborne.

"When I came to Nashville 13 years ago, I just wanted to play country music," the longtime Hootie & The Blowfish frontman tells Billboard. "To have nine No. 1 songs is more than a dream come true. It's unbelievable."

Rucker last ruled Country Airplay with "For the First Time" in June 2018. He arrived at the format with the two-week No. 1 "Don't Think I Don't Think About It" in 2008.

Rucker notched three Country Airplay No. 1s in the 2000s and five in the '10s and now has his first of the '20s. In the 1990s, he visited the tops of multiple tallies as a member of Hootie & the Blowfish, including the all-genre Billboard 200 albums chart with Cracked Rear View (eight weeks at No. 1 in 1995) and Fairweather Johnson (two, 1996).

'LADY' LUCK Also on Country Airplay, Brett Young banks his seventh straight career-opening top 10 as "Lady" rises 11-9 (17.9 million, up 12%). It follows "Catch," which became his fifth leader last April.

NEW 'LIFE' Florida Georgia Line's Life Rolls On debuts at No. 3 on Top Country Albums with 20,000 equivalent album units, marking the seventh top 10 for the duo of Tyler Hubbard and Brian Kelley.

Meanwhile, "Long Live," the LP's second single, becomes the pair's 18th Hot Country Songs top 10 as it jumps 15-10. It climbs 8-7 on Country Airplay (18.9 million, up 3%) and drew 5.5 million streams and sold 2,000 downloads in the tracking week.
