Thomas Rhett & Jon Pardi Rule Country Airplay, Luke Combs Debuts New Quarantine Hit

Thomas Rhett's "Beer Can't Fix," featuring Jon Pardi, ascends 3-1 on Billboard's Country Airplay chart (dated May 16), hiking by 18% to 38.8 million audience impressions, according to Nielsen Music/MRC Data.

Rhett achieves his 15th leader and Pardi adds his fourth.

The song, which Rhett wrote with Julian Bunetta, Zach Skelton and Ryan Tedder, is the third single from Rhett's LP Center Point Road, which debuted at No. 1 on Top Country Albums in June 2019. Lead hit "Look What God Gave Her" led Country Airplay that month, followed by "Remember You Young," which reigned in December.

"Beer Can't Fix" is additionally Rhett's ninth consecutive Country Airplay leader (counting proper singles in lead roles), the longest active such run. Luke Combs follows with seven, encompassing his first seven career-opening singles, and Old Dominion is next with six.

Pardi's fourth Country Airplay leader follows his own "Heartache Medication," which led the Feb. 8-dated survey. His current solo single, "Ain't Always the Cowboy" (Capitol Nashville), bumps 36-35 (3.5 million, up less than 1%).

NEW TOP 10s Luke Combs scores the highest Hot Country Songs debut of 2020, as "Six Feet Apart" flies in at No. 10.

Combs composed the track with Brent Cobb and Rob Snyder about missing the simple joys of life while sheltering in place during the current coronavirus pandemic. Combs first shared the song during a livestream performance last month. After positive reaction from fans, he recorded a studio version.

The track enters Country Digital Song Sales at No. 1, marking Combs' fifth leader, with 23,000 sold. It also arrives at No. 16 on Country Streaming Songs with 6.1 million U.S. streams. On Country Airplay, it jumps 55-40, up 152% to 2.8 million in audience.

Combs makes his second start in the Hot Country Songs top 10, after "Beautiful Crazy" soared in at No. 6 in May 2018, before it began an 11-week rule the following March.

Plus, Sam Hunt banks his eighth Country Airplay top 10 as "Hard to Forget" rises 11-10 (17.3 million, up 6%). The song follows "Kinfolks," which became his sixth No. 1 in February.

DIALED IN Tim McGraw logs his highest career debut on Country Airplay with a song on which he's unaccompanied by any other artist, as "I Called Mama," his 85th total entry, flies in at No. 20 with 12.1 million impressions in just three days of airplay. The song was released Friday, May 8, and received hourly plays on participating iHeartMedia stations that day.

McGraw previously bowed at a No. 22 best on his own with "Truck Yeah" in 2012. Overall, two songs of his have started higher than his latest: "Feel Like a Rock Star," with Kenny Chesney (No. 13, 2012), and "Speak to a Girl," with wife Faith Hill (No. 19, 2017).
