Big Splash: Waterparks Hit No. 1 On Emerging Artists Chart

The group also earns its highest-charting album on the Billboard 200.

Houston-based pop-punk band Waterparks re-enters Billboard's Emerging Artists chart (dated Oct. 26) at No. 1, becoming the top emerging act in the U.S. for the first time.

The group reigns on the strength of its third studio album Fandom. Released on Hopeless Records, the set debuts at No. 2 on Alternative Albums, No. 5 on Top Rock Albums and No. 32 on the Billboard 200 with 15,000 equivalent album units, according to Nielsen Music, marking the group's highest-charting entry on all three charts.

The group's sophomore effort, Entertainment, reached No. 7 on Alternative Albums, No. 13 on Top Rock Albums and No. 98 on the Billboard 200 in February 2018.

The trio comprises vocalist Awsten Knight, guitarist Geoff Wigington and drummer Otto Wood.

The Emerging Artists chart ranks the most popular developing artists of the week, using the same formula as the all-encompassing Billboard Artist 100, which measures artist activity across multiple Billboard charts, including the Billboard Hot 100, Billboard 200 and the Social 50. (The Artist 100 lists the most popular acts, overall, each week.) However, the Emerging Artists chart excludes acts that have notched a top 25 entry on either the Hot 100 or Billboard 200, as well as artists that have achieved two or more top 10s on Billboard's "Hot" song genre charts and/or consumption-based "Top" album genre rankings.

Brooklyn-based Big Thief re-enters Emerging Artists at No. 4, as the group's fourth LP (and second this year), Two Hands, opens at No. 4 on Americana/Folk Albums and No. 21 on Top Rock Albums with 7,000 equivalent album units. The group's previous set, U.F.O.F., hit Nos. 3 and 8 and on the tallies, respectively, in May.

Rounding out the Emerging Artists top five, NLE Choppa dips to No. 2 after six weeks at No. 1, Matt Stell retreats 2-3 and Pinkfong holds at No. 5.
