Benjamin debuts at No. 8 after an Aug. 18 tweet showing off his meeting with the BTS member.

Alec Benjamin launches onto Billboard’s Social 50 chart for the first time, while Normani scores her maiden top 10 on the Aug. 31-dated tally.

The Social 50 is powered by data tracked by music analytics company Next Big Sound and ranks the most popular artists on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube and Wikipedia. The chart's methodology blends weekly additions of friends/fans/followers with artist page views and engagement. The chart's latest tracking week ended Aug. 22.

Benjamin’s debut has everything to do with a recent tour through Asia and, in particular, a stop in Seoul that led to a photo posted to social media with BTS’ Jimin.

“SEOUL WAS AMAZING!” Benjamin tweeted Aug. 18. “Thanks so much for coming to my show, Jimin. :)” The accompanying photo showed Benjamin and the BTS member.

“Your voice is heavenly,” the official BTS Twitter account added with a separate photo of the pair. “Thanks for coming.”

Benjamin’s tweet helped him to 547,000 mentions and 233,000 reactions on the service in all, up 21,287 and 14,058%, respectively, according to Next Big Sound. He also added 39,000 new followers on Twitter, a boost of 1,281%.

Meanwhile, Normani vaults 39-9 on the Social 50 a week after re-entering the tally.

The Fifth Harmony member-turned-solo artist (during the girl group’s hiatus, that is) scored a 211% increase in overall social engagement, led by 265,000 new YouTube subscribers. She also snagged a 451% boost in Twitter mentions.

It was all thanks to a new single and music video, “Motivation,” debuted Aug. 16. Co-written by Normani, Ariana Grande and others, the song concurrently bows at No. 33 on the Billboard Hot 100, tying Normani’s start with “Dancing with a Stranger,” her previous single, with Sam Smith.

Normani’s No. 9 peak on the Social 50 is her new best, exceeding the No. 24 debut she achieved on the Social 50 dated Dec. 31, 2016.
