Jimmie Allen visits SiriusXM Studios on Oct. 16, 2018 in New York City.

Plus, Motion City Soundtrack frontman Justin Courtney Pierre debuts.

Up-and-coming country singer-songwriter Jimmie Allen rises 10-3 on Billboard's Emerging Artists chart (dated Oct. 27), reaching a new peak on the strength of his debut studio album Mercury Lane. The LP opens at No. 11 on the Top Country Albums chart with 7,000 equivalent album units earned in the week ending Oct. 18, according to Nielsen Music.

Allen's ascent to No. 3 on Emerging Artists is also aided by his breakthrough single "Best Shot," which enters the top 10 of the Hot Country Songs chart for the first time, rising 12-9 in its 23rd week. The song concurrently leaps 10-5 on Country Airplay.

The Emerging Artists chart ranks the most popular developing artists of the week, using the same formula as the all-encompassing Billboard Artist 100, which measures artist activity across multiple Billboard charts, including the Billboard Hot 100, Billboard 200 and the Social 50. (The Artist 100 lists the most popular acts, overall, each week.) However, the Emerging Artists chart excludes acts that have notched a top 25 entry on either the Hot 100 or Billboard 200, as well as artists that have achieved two or more top 10s on Billboard's "Hot" song genre charts and/or consumption-based "Top" album genre rankings.

Atop Emerging Artists, lovelytheband spends its third total week on top, as the group's single "Broken" reaches a new peak on the Hot 100, rising 39-33. The group's new single "These Are My Friends" concurrently reaches new peaks on Alternative Songs (17-16) and Rock Airplay (22-20).

Meanwhile, Dallas-based instrumental rock group Polyphia debuts at No. 4 on Emerging Artists, as its third LP New Levels New Devils arrives at No.  7 on Top Rock Albums, becoming the act's first top 10 on the tally, and a career-best No. 61 on the Billboard 200 (11,000 units). The group's three previous entries, 2014's Muse, 2016's Renaissance and 2017's EP The Most Hated reached Nos. 76, 103 and 162, respectively, on the Billboard 200.

Rounding out the Emerging Artists top five, NCT 127 jumps 7-2 and Lauv drops 2-5.

Plus, Motion City Soundtrack frontman Justin Courtney Pierre debuts at No. 39 on the Emerging Artists chart, as his debut solo LP In the Drink opens at No. 7 on Heatseekers Albums (2,000 copies sold). Before Motion City Soundtrack disbanded in 2016, the group earned five entries on the Billboard 200, with 2010's My Dinosaur Life and 2007's Even If It Kills Me charting the highest, at Nos. 15 and 16, respectively.
