"Thunderstruck," from Apple's "Morning Ride" ad, launches at No. 2 on the September Top TV Commercials chart on the strength of 13,000 Shazam tags, 39,000 downloads sold and 8.5 million U.S. streams tallied during the month. The commercial's exposure helped the song leap to No. 8 on the Rock Digital Songs chart dated Oct. 8, up 167 percent from the previous tracking week to 13,000 downloads sold.
Beck's "Wow," released in June, debuts on Top TV Commercials at No. 3 after being featured in Acura's "Anthem" ad. The commercial sparked 37,000 monthly Shazam tags for the song, 23,000 downloads sold and 3.5 million U.S. streams. The song rose to No. 13 on the Rock Airplay chart in August and September.
Additionally, Hamilton Leithauser + Rostam's "In a Black Out" debuts on the September Top TV Commercials chart at No. 11. Released Aug. 5 as the second single from their debut album I Had a Dream That You Were Mine, the track was featured in Apple's "Midnight" ad. The song logged 32,000 Shazam tags, 8,000 downloads sold and 645,000 U.S. streams in September. Shortly after the commercial premiered, the song debuted at No. 43 on Billboard's Hot Rock Songs chart (dated Oct. 8).
Atop the Top TV Commercials survey, Fitz and the Tantrums continue their rule, as "HandClap" ranks at No. 1 for a second straight (and fourth total) month, thanks to its synch in FIAT's "Toy Car" ad. The song led the chart in May and June with the help of FIAT's "Room With a View" ad. It finished September with 59,000 Shazam tags, 73,000 downloads sold and 7.3 million U.S. streams.
