Kent Jones' 'Don't Mind' Makes Its Way Up Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs

Plus, Alicia Keys and Chris Brown each debut on Hot R&B Songs and Rittz arrives on Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums

Newcomer Kent Jones soars 29-13 on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs (chart dated May 28) with his debut charting single, “Don’t Mind,” due in part by a 53 percent leap streams during the week ending May 12 (to 6.5 million, according to Nielsen Music). Most streams stem from Spotify, with 2.6 million coming from the on-demand service. 

The rapper, signed to DJ Khaled’s We The Best label (and released through Epic Records), also increases 28 percent in airplay, logging 41 million audience impressions in the week ending May 15. DJ Khaled often features the track in his popular Snapchat stories, and has brought Jones to perform during his opening act slot on Beyonce’s Formation Tour.

Alicia Keys Arrives: Over on Hot R&B Songs, Alicia Keys arrives with “In Common,” bowing at No. 14. The majority of points contributing to its debut come from 2.2 million streams in the week ending May 12, a 317 percent spike, following partial tracking week of streams after the song’s Tuesday, May 3 premiere (streams are tracked from Friday through Thursday). Over on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, it grants Keys her 30th hit, as it debuts at No. 42. It has not been announced if “In Common” is from a forthcoming studio album from the singer/songwriter.

Chris Brown’s ‘Grass’ Grows: Chris Brown follows Keys on Hot R&B Songs, entering at No. 15 with “Grass Ain’t Greener.” With 17,000 downloads, the song concurrently bows at No. 13 on R&B Digital Songs. The single previews Brown’s upcoming album, Heartbreak on a Full Moon. The singer announced the new set on May 1, though its release date has yet to be announced.

Rittz Rolls In: Rittz’s Top Of The Line earns the highest debut on Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums, arriving at No. 3 with 20,000 copies sold in the week ending May 12. The Strange Music rapper matches his previous high on the chart, achieved when Next To Nothing bowed at No. 3 in 2014 (with 22,000 sold). The new album also starts at No. 2 on Rap Albums — his highest charting set yet on the tally.

‘Panda’ Powers On: Desiigner scores a new airplay No. 1, skipping 3-1 on Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop with his breakout hit, “Panda.” The track rises 7 percent in spins at the format, reaching a new peak. Streaming also reaches a new high, logging 38.5 million U.S. plays during the week, and stepping 2-1 on the overall Streaming Songs chart (it’s fourth chart-topping week). “Panda” previously reigned for three weeks on both the Hot 100 and falls 2-3 on the ranking in its 12th charting week.
