Still, the soundtrack is yielding dance hits, as five of its tracks have pierced the Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart, including Deorro's "I Can Be Somebody," featuring Erin McCarley (41-39). Previously, four other cuts from the soundtrack hit the chart (two in remixed form): The Americanos' "BlackOut," featuring Lil Jon, Juicy J and Tyga (No. 47, Sept. 5); AlunaGeorge's "You Know You Like It" (Tchami Remix) (No. 30, May); Years & Years' "Desire" (Gryffin Remix) (No. 21, April); and, Oliver $ and Jimi Jules' "Pushing On" (No. 20, September 2014).
ALSO ALESSO: Additionally on Top Dance/Electronic Albums, Alesso enjoys the effects of iTunes' latest dance/electronic spotlight. After his Forever showed on the store's main page, it re-enters Top Dance/Electronic Albums for the first time in two months, at No. 7 (1,000 sold, up 404 percent). The Swedish star also headlined the Sunday, Sept. 6 Main Stage lineup at New York City's Electric Zoo festival.
… AND AVICII: Avicii scores the Hot Shot Debut on Hot Dance/Electronic Songs with "For a Better Day" (No. 18). The track, one of three already available from his album Stories (Oct. 2), collected 726,000 U.S. streams and sold 5,000 in the tracking week. Another new Avicii song, "Pure Grinding" (which nods to Crystal Waters' 1994 Dance Club Songs topper "100% Pure Love," with its "100 percent pure grinding" chorus) also debuts, at No. 47.
Avicii directed powerful videos for both new tracks, tackling themes of child trafficking and gang violence. Meanwhile, first Stories single "Waiting for Love" ups 12-11 on Hot Dance/Electronic Songs. The track hit No. 7 in August and has sold 81,000 since its May 22 release.
'LOCKED' UP: On Dance/Mix Show Airplay, R. City relishes its first top 10 with "Locked Away," as the track, featuring Maroon 5's Adam Levine, rockets 13-6. Levine's lands his second solo top 10, following his featured turn on Gym Class Heroes' "Stereo Hearts" (No. 9, 2011). Maroon 5 has notched five Dance/Mix Show Airplay top 10s, including the two-week No. 1 "Makes Me Wonder" in August 2007. (On the Billboard Hot 100, "Locked" bullets at No. 9.)
POP CHART: Icona Pop propels to its second Dance Club Songs No. 1 with "Emergency" (3-1). The Swedish duo previously led in December 2013 with "All Night." "Emergency" has energized crowds via remixes from, among others, Sam Feldt, Tommie Sunshine & Kandy and Club Killers.
