CMA Expands List of Nonprofits Getting Funds From Its COVID Support Initiative

The Country Music Association has announced five new nonprofit recipients for its Music Industry COVID Support (MICS) initiative, including funds for organizations providing free musical instruments and health advocacy, plus a gratis grocery store launched by one of Nashville's biggest stars.

MICS was launched in early 2020 at the dawn of the COVID-19 crisis with a $3 million commitment by the CMA, the country music trade org responsible for the annual CMA Awards. The initiative serves as a portal to help in the categories of food supply, health, and career services, plus it connects members of the industry with nonprofits that can help them.

The org's new nonprofit partners include Music Health Alliance, which offers free healthcare advocacy; Musically Fed, a provider of food to those in need; Notes for Notes, a nonprofit dedicated to providing youth with free access to music instruments and lessons; Porter's Call, which counsels and supports full-time artists; and The Store, a free grocery store co-founded by Brad Paisley and Kimberly Williams-Paisley in partnership with Belmont University.

"Awareness is key. We are leaning on our entire industry to help us share these essential resources with those in need and keep our people healthy and stable," says Sarah Trahern, CMA CEO. "Right now, we recognize the immediacy related to food supply, healthcare and career services, and these five organizations are providing incredible support to music professionals. With the prospect of a vaccine being widely available in the coming months, we will continue to invest in the future of our industry, and the needs required, as we near the return of live touring."
