SoundCloud has announced a major change at the top, with company president Michael Weissman succeeding Kerry Trainor as CEO beginning Jan. 1. Trainor will retain a seat on the board of directors.
Weissman and Trainor joined SoundCloud as a duo in August 2017 after several years working together at Vimeo, where they were COO and CEO, respectively. Their arrival coincided with a $170 million investment from global merchant bank The Raine Group and Singapore-based Temasek Holdings that kickstarted a resurgence for the streaming audio platform — it recently crossed over into profitability and is poised to complete its third consecutive year of accelerating revenue growth.
"The company is in one of its most exciting moments in its history, and I’m thrilled to work alongside SoundCloud's team and Board to lean into our unique position and opportunity in music," said Weissman. "Kerry and I have worked together for nearly a decade, and I want to thank him for his vision and leadership to reposition SoundCloud for growth and, personally, for his partnership, friendship, and support for me to take the helm."
