Concord Music Publishing has hired Duff Berschback as executive vp, legal and business affairs, the company announced Monday (March 16).

Berschback joins the company after spending 13 years at Sony/ATV Nashville, where he most recently served as senior vp, legal affairs and business development. He was recruited to Concord by the company’s chief publishing executive Jake Wisely, and in his role there, he will report to Concord chief business affairs officer and general counsel Larry Blake out of the company’s Nashville headquarters.

“Duff fits squarely into Concord’s vision for a global, full-service, Nashville-based music publishing company, operating across all genres and territories,” said Wisely in a statement. “Duff also signals our intention to build a world class frontline country music roster and catalog. I’m thrilled to welcome an old friend to our growing business."

In his new role, Berschback will be tasked with providing leadership and oversight of Concord’s global legal and business affairs operations, which negotiate all songwriter, co-publishing, administration and catalog acquisition agreements, as well as outbound licensing and publishing litigation. He will also support the creative, strategic and business development priorities of the company’s publishing business, while offering insight and leadership of Concord’s legislative and judicial advocacy agenda.

“Duff comes to us with a wealth of experience in all aspects of the publishing business and a well-deserved reputation as a consummate dealmaker with deep roots in the Nashville publishing community and beyond,” added Blake. “We are very fortunate to have him join the Concord team.”

In his own statement, Berschback noted he is “beyond thrilled” to join the company. “[CEO] Scott [Pascucci], Jake, Larry and the entire leadership team are passionate about music and are committed to discovering, developing and providing the highest level of service to the talented people who create it.”

Concord's current roster includes Trent Reznor, Daft Punk, Phil Collins, Mark Ronson, Dolly Parton, John Fogerty, Cyndi Lauper and M.I.A.
