Scott Borchetta Says He's Still Rooting For Taylor Swift: 'She's Brilliant & We've Had a Historic Run'

Big Machine Label Group founder/president/ceo Scott Borchetta spoke with Billboard on the red carpet at the 2020 Billboard Power Event on Thursday (Jan. 23), discussing his partnership with Scooter Braun, why he is still rooting for Taylor Swift, and why transparency is important when it comes to awards shows.

Posed with the question of what his biggest power move of 2019 was, Borchetta tells Billboard that it was his new partnership with Scooter Braun and Ithaca Holdings, explaining, “We're having a great time and it's pretty powerful.”

Speaking of the controversy surrounding the partnership, Borchetta says that despite there being turmoil, the experience taught him who his friends are. “We've always had a tough skin, so there's a great balance in the universe, great things have happened,” he adds. “Every once in a while, you're gonna get hit, but we're rocking.”

Asked if he is still rooting for Taylor Swift, Borchetta replies, “Of course. I mean, I'm always gonna root for her. She's brilliant and we've had a historic run.”

In the interview, Borchetta also discusses why transparency is critical when it comes to awards shows, in light of the recent allegations made by ousted Recording Academy president/CEO Deborah Dugan regarding the organization’s voting procedures.

“All awards shows, we always want transparency,” says Borchetta. “You can look at how should the voting process be? Should there be actual results that count toward it? Should album sales count? Should ticket sales count? So there's a lot of different ways to look at it, but transparency is critical.”
