John Prine will be honored at the upcoming 2020 American Association of Independent Music Libera Awards (A2IM) on June 18 in New York. The prolific singer/songwriter will be celebrated with the independent icon award at the ceremony, held at Ziegfeld Ballroom, as well as performing.
Previously, Prine took was awarded at the 2019 Libera Awards, winning best country/Americana album and best American roots/folk album for 2018’s The Tree of Forgiveness. In addition to Prine being recognized at the Libera Awards, punk rocker Alejandro Escovedo will also perform and receive the independent icon award.
“The 2020 Libera Awards serve as a dual celebration for A2IM: one that applauds the extraordinary talent of so many artists, labels, and independent champions, as well as the commemoration of 15 years of A2IM and all that our board, our members, our team, and my predecessors have worked to accomplish,” said A2IM CEO Richard James Burgess in a statement. “We are proud of the increased visibility of independent music in the global market and are energized and excited to dive into the next fifteen years of events, advocacy, and work in this remarkable community.”
Tickets for the 2020 Libera Awards will go on sale Jan. 13. For more information and to purchase tickets, visit liberaawards.stayindie.net.
