Warner Music Group has elevated longtime exec Jon Glass to senior vp, head of digital legal affairs at the major label, it was announced Tuesday. Glass takes over for Ron Wilcox, who is retiring after a decade at the company.

As head of digital legal affairs, Glass will work closely with WMG’s business development team and — as his title suggests — lead the label group’s legal efforts across various digital projects. He’ll report to Paul Robinson, WMG's evp and general counsel.

"Jon is the kind of person you want on your side of the negotiating table," said Robinson. "He’s a savvy and level-headed deal-maker with a wealth of experience in all things digital. He sees the big picture and also the details. I’ve watched Jon lead the charge on many of our most strategic and cutting-edge deals, and I know he’ll make a great leader as we navigate uncharted territory and explore fresh opportunities for our artists and labels."

Glass joined WMG in 2010 and has served as associate counsel, digital legal affairs, before being promoted to vp and later svp. Previously, he worked in Sony Music’s business and legal affairs department.

"It’s an exciting time to be in this business, as new technology is constantly emerging and new opportunities for consumers to experience our music are expanding," noted Glass. "It’s also a crucial time, as we defend and champion the value of music with fair and equitable deals that make sense for our artists and labels. I’m happy to be doing this great work in collaboration with our wonderful BD and digital legal teams."

Wilcox exits after more than 10 years at WMG, where he held the title of executive counsel, business affairs, strategic and digital initiatives. His departure was first reported in June. In the early 2000s, Wilcox served as evp and chief business and legal affairs officer at Sony Music.

"As Ron passes the torch, we wish him well," said Robinson. "His counsel and expertise over the past ten years have been invaluable."

Added Glass: "I am grateful to Paul and WMG for this opportunity, and to Ron for his years of training and mentorship."
