Kobalt has tapped Silicon Valley veteran Johan Land as its next chief product officer.

Land, an e-commerce entrepreneur, brings to the role a decade of experience with a raft of blue-chip companies, including YouTube, where he worked on music and YouTube TV; and most recently at Waymo, where he led the launch of the first commercial self-driving cars service.

Previously, Land worked as a management consultant at McKinsey in Europe and India and he established a broad range of companies active in retail, tech and other sectors.

Based in London, Land will be responsible for the next phase of the independent music company’s products and platform to "handle the rapidly increasing volume and complexity of data," a Kobalt statement reads.

Speaking on the new appointment, Kobalt founder and CEO Willard Ahdritz comments, "Kobalt has always been at the heart of technology and innovation in the music industry and Simon has been a big part of that. I’m excited to have Johan on board to continue this trend. He has an impressive pedigree as a product leader and innovator, and I am confident he can continue our stellar track record of delivering industry-changing products and services to creators."

Land succeeds Kobalt’s current CPO Simon Dennett, who takes up a position as a non-executive board member at Kobalt's collection society, AMRA.
