Blackbird Presents has appointed veteran publishing executive Lance Freed as president of Blackbird Music Publishing Group, it was announced on Monday (July 29). Additionally, the company revealed it has acquired administration rights to the music catalog of legendary song-writer composer Burt Bacharach.

Freed most recently served as the president of Avex International Publishing Group. Prior to that, he held the title of president at Rondor Music International for 36 years.

“I am thrilled to join Keith, Blackbird Presents and The Raine Group as President of Blackbird Music Publishing Group,” said Freed in a statement. “My entire career has been predicated on providing total, complete, personal focus on songwriters and their songs. Now I get to continue that journey and also provide a range of remarkable strategic and financial opportunities to songwriters given the similar philosophy and assets of my new partners.”

Added Blackbird Presents CEO Keith Wortman, “Music publishing is a natural next step for us given that our work across film, television, concerts and festivals enables us to offer incredible opportunities to songwriters. There was only one name on the list for us to lead this effort and it was Lance Freed. Lance is the most thoughtful and creative music publishing executive in our industry, and I am thrilled that he has joined the Blackbird Presents family.”

On the Bacharch front, the company now holds admin rights to over 400 of the composer's songs including “What The World Needs Now Is Love,” “What’s New Pussycat,” “Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head,” “That’s What Friends Are For” and “I Say A Little Prayer.”

Blackbird Presents is one of the world’s leading producers and financiers of large-scale music programming including concerts, broadcast specials, TV series, festivals and tours. In May, the company hired Joe Litvag as partner and president of its live entertainment division.
