LONDON -- AEG's plans to grow its share of Europe's thriving festival business have moved up a gear with the promotion of Jim King to CEO of European Festivals, reporting to president of AEG Europe, Alex Hill.

London-based King has worked at AEG Presents for over a decade, most recently as executive vice president of Live Music, and oversaw the launch of AEG's flagship U.K. festival , Barclaycard presents British Summer Time Hyde Park, in 2013.

This year's event kicked off last weekend with shows by Celine Dion, Stevie Wonder and Barbra Streisand. AEG's other European festivals include London's All Points East and Rock En Seine in Paris.

King's promotion to CEO of AEG's newly launched European festivals division will see him tasked with identifying and developing new opportunities in the festival market, as well as lead on talent and operations for the company's existing festival portfolio.

Working alongside AEG Presents' UK CEO's Steve Homer and Toby Leighton-Pope (who also report to Hill), King will be part of a senior management team focused on growing touring business in Europe and the U.K.

AEG Presents promotes around 1,000 shows in the U.K. each year. Recent box office successes include Hugh Jackman selling 300,000 tickets across Europe, including six nights at London's The O2, and arena tours by Shawn Mendes and Michael Bublé.

"I really believe that AEG does something truly special when it comes to festivals. The music fans and the artists are always at the heart of our thinking and this has meant we have been able to curate shows that resonate with them and keep both coming back," said King in a statement.

He went on to say that he was looking forward to working with Alex Hill "in finding and developing new opportunities to build on and maintain AEG's leadership in this sector."

"Jim is without a doubt the very best at what he does," commented Hill. "We wanted to give him the freedom to accelerate AEG's activity in the festival space hence the creation of this division and his leadership role at the head of it. I know that he and his team are going to do great things."
