This year's Summit is Nov. 5 and 6 in Los Angeles

Billboard is launching its inaugural Guest Curator Program for this year's Billboard Live Music Summit and Awards, with Live Nation Urban president Shawn Gee and AEG Presents chief digital officer Brooke Michael Kain serving as advisors and conference curators for the Nov. 5 and 6 event at the Montage in Beverly Hills.

Each year, more than 100 panelists, guest speakers and artists participate in the Live Music Summit, featuring some of the biggest names in music, comedy and live entertainment. Gee and Kain will curate and lead a number of keynote panels for the Summit, providing guidance and support for Billboard's programming team as it develops initiatives for a deeper engagement with the more than 500 attendees that register each year.

"Since I began programming the Summit in 2017, I've tried to align with individuals throughout the music industry that have compelling stories our audience needs to hear," says Dave Brooks, Billboard's senior director for live and touring. "Shawn Gee and Brooke Michael Kain's accomplishments set the bar for how the live music industry can serve as a positive force for change and growth. They're both smart, confident and compelling and will be critical resources as we program this year's event."

Gee is a founding member of management consortium Maverick and lead manager for The Roots and Jill Scott. In 2017, he partnered with Live Nation to launch Live Nation Urban to better cater to underserved audiences of hip-hop, R&B and gospel by developing original urban-focused events, festival brands and strategic content partnerships. From his work developing Roots Picnic to his early investment in Broccoli City, Gee has an impressive track record of indentifying and cultivating entrepreniurial success.

“At the Billboard Live Music Summit, it is important to ensure that there is a balance, a diverse set of voices heard, and stories told," Gee says. "For many years when you would look at ‘industry conferences and summits,' you would see the same names telling the same stories about the same artists. It’s time to change that narrative, and I hope to introduce some new voices and new stories, those that are truly driving culture and driving the exponential growth we are seeing in the business today.”

Kain is a leading voice in the music industry, being recognized three times on Billboard's Digital Power Players list during her time as head of digital marketing for Apple Music in 2017 and in 2018 for her role as chief digital officer at AEG Presents. This year she test-launched an innovative Postmates-powered food delivery service program at Coachella that will expand to other AEG festivals, and has grown AEG’s consumer database nearly sevenfold to 200 million fan records.

Kain is helping Billboard develop a keynote panel exploring how data is changing the way the live entertainment world engages with its fans, while highlighting the new challenges the music business faces protecting user privacy and ensuring security of personal data.

"We all know that data drives everything from pricing, to marketing, to consumer behavior. Now the question is, what data is okay to use, and how do we use it? I’m excited to explore this at the Live Music Summit,” Kain tells Billboard.
