SoundCloud has elevated Michael Weissman to president of the streaming audio platform. Since joining the company in 2017 as chief operating officer, Weissman has focused on generating revenue and forging partnerships with the likes of Pandora and Targetspot, as well as acquisitions, including the recent pickup of Repost Network.

As president, Weissman will continue to drive SoundCloud's subscription and advertising business, as well as the all-important marketing and content licensing disciplines. He'll also continue to lead the company's legal, human resources and finance functions, and report to CEO Kerry Trainor.

"Mike is a proven leader whose strong business acumen and passion for the SoundCloud mission have been critical to helping us grow the world’s largest two-sided ecosystem of audio creators and passionate fans driving what’s next in music and audio," said Trainor. "Mike's leadership will be invaluable as we accelerate into our next phase of growth, and continue to provide the most comprehensive tools for creators to build their careers first on SoundCloud."

Prior to joining SoundCloud, Weissman was COO at Vimeo -- where Trainor was CEO until mid-2016. He has also held executive positions at Vimeo parent IAC, Viacom and Universal Music Group.

Added Weissman, "Since joining SoundCloud nearly two years ago, we’ve grown the business across all key metrics, established several key partnerships and expanded globally. I look forward to continuing to drive the business and furthering our commitment to help creators and fans connect."

In other SoundCloud staffing news, the Berlin-based firm recently hired Gilles BianRosa as its new chief product officer and Josh Nicoll as head of independent label services.
