Charlie Walk Appointed Brand Ambassador for Music World Cup Competition
The former Republic exec and Music World Cup are also launching a scholarship through his new Music Mastery mentorship program.
Music World Cup, a blockchain-driven social music competition platform, has appointed former Republic Records president Charlie Walk as their next "World Unity Ambassador," it was announced Tuesday.
As a brand ambassador, Walk will take on a public role in introducing audiences to Music World Cup, an upcoming global competition in which emerging artists can upload a performance and reach potential fans. The inaugural Music World Cup Live Finals is scheduled to take place by the end of the year.
To coincide with the announcement, Walk and MWC are launching a scholarship through his new Music Mastery mentorship program, ultimately choosing five emerging acts to help develop via a six-week online program.
Walk has been consulting for artists and music biz executives since leaving Republic Records in March 2018, following an investigation into sexual misconduct allegations that he denied. Prior to exiting Republic, Walk left his role as a host on Fox music competition TV show The Four.
In December, Steve Stoute told Billboard Walk was consulting for his startup UnitedMasters.
Founder and executive producer Talal Thabet said in a statement to Billboard that Music World Cup established a high bar for its World Unity Ambassadors.
"They are captains of their industry who have earned the respect of their peers, and are acutely determined in their ambition to do good for humanity, whatever the odds," Thabet said. "We specifically selected our World Unity Ambassadors in honor of their outstanding contribution to the global music community and for adding significant value to people's lives around the world."
Added Fahad Alhamrani, chairman of Music World Cup: "Charlie has created a recognizable name for himself across the industry. His vast knowledge for global music development, marketing technique and passion for breaking artists, makes him an ideal representative for our portfolio."
