The Los Angeles-based independent label will leverage the Kobalt company's full suite of services for its current roster and full catalog.

AWAL, the recording company owned by Kobalt Music Group, has signed an exclusive worldwide deal with Los Angeles-based independent label SideOneDummy Records, the company announced on Monday (April 29).

The deal will leverage AWAL’s marketing, A&R, promotion, distribution and licensing expertise for SideOneDummy’s current roster and full catalog.

“AWAL is proud to work with the best artists and labels across genres,” said AWAL CEO Lonny Olinick in a statement. “Signing this deal with SideOneDummy Records is an amazing opportunity for AWAL to continue this tradition with a legendary indie label.  Whether working in punk, indie rock, or with singer songwriters, their team has created an artist friendly label focused on true artist development. They have bold ambitions to expand SideOneDummy.”

SideOne Dummy Records was founded in 1995 by Joe Sib and Bill Armstrong. The label, which underwent a major restructuring in 2018,  has launched the careers of artists like Flogging Molly, The Gaslight Anthem, Gogol Bordello and Title Fight and currently boasts a roster including Xavier Rudd, Rozwell Kid and Nahko And Medicine For The People. They’ve released the annual Warped Tour compilation album since 1998.

“We have been fans of Kobalt for many years and have watched them grow from the sidelines,” added Armstrong. “We have been impressed with their forward thinking, independent spirit, transparency and creative initiatives. Our meetings with Lonny, combined with how much he knows and understands our company culture made AWAL the natural next step into the future for  SideOneDummy. The evolution of the music business has been dramatic in recent years and Kobalt is leading the charge, we are thrilled to be a part of it.”
