Universal Music Central Europe announced today in Berlin that Maciej Kutak has been appointed managing director of Universal Music Poland, effective May 1. Frank Briegmann, president & CEO Central Europe Universal Music and Deutsche Grammophon, said Kutak's appointment "reflects the ambitions for UMG to further strengthen its position as the market leader in Poland."

Kutak joins UMP from Sony Music, where he held the position of MD, Eastern Europe since 2014 and was responsible for company operations in 10 countries across Eastern Europe. Prior to Sony, he worked for Viacom International as a vp. Kutak started his career in the publishing industry with roles at Axel Springer and Bauer Media Poland before joining Viacom in 2010. He will be based in Warsaw and report to Briegmann.

He takes over responsibilities from Jan Kubicki, who recently stepped down in order to focus on his own projects including Magic Records, a joint-venture label in partnership with UMP.

In making the announcement, Briegmann added, "I am absolutely delighted that Maciej has committed himself to us and our artists. With his expertise, his experience and his energy, he will stimulate the company as well as the Polish music market."

Kutak said, "The development and support of domestic artists is particularly close to my heart and I am convinced that I can achieve the best results with UMP. With the fantastic team in Poland, the amazing domestic and international roster and an extensive network, we will make Universal Music Poland even more successful."
