Brian Sipe Joins OVG As Director of Bookings at Rupp Arena in Kentucky
Brian Sipe has joined Oak View Group Facilities as director of booking at Rupp Arena in Lexington, Kentucky in partnership with Lexington Center Corporation. He replaces David Farrar, who left the building earlier this year.
Sipe previously served as general manager of the SMG-managed Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza in Wilkes Barre, Pa. which recorded its fastest sellout to date in 2018 for Kenny Chesney's upcoming May 10 concert, and Sipe helped put the building on international television with two back-to-back sold out WWE events. He's also served as GM of the Big Sandy Superstore Arena in Huntington, West Virginia and worked at both the Sovereign Center in Reading, Pennsylvannia and the Sovereign Bank Arena in Trenton, New Jersey.
Lexington Center Corp president Bill Owen said in a statement that Sipe is "a well-respected leader in live entertainment," while OVG Facilities president Hank Abate added that Sipe "brings a tremendous amount of experience in bookings to Lexington, and we will lean on him to help us secure events at some of our additional properties."
OVG Facilities is owned by Irving Azoff and Tim Leiweke, operating a number of venues around the country and leading the renovation of KeyArena in Seattle and a new arena planned for Austin, Texas. OVG and Lexington Center Corporation entered into a three-year partnership in February 2018 to develop events and book concerts at the arena that's shared with the University of Kentucky and serves as the home venue for the eight-time NCAA champion Kentucky Wildcats men's basketball team.
"The booking strategy focuses on creating new programming, attracting more diverse national tours to the Lexington market, creating unique premium experience opportunities, and enhancing the fan experience," according to a press release, which says bookings increased 100 percent at the arena in 2018 over 2017.
