Netflix’s animated series Beat Bugs is hitting the road as a live musical. Show creator Josh Wakely’s Grace production company will team up with live entertainment leaders Round Room to produce Beat Bugs Live for a multi-city trek expected in spring 2020.

Just like in the series, the Beat Bugs live show will feature main characters Jay, Crick, Kumi, Walter and Buzz as they travel through an overgrown backyard. The stage production will weave iconic songs made famous by The Beatles, including “Come Together,” “Hey Jude,” “Here Comes the Sun,” “Blackbird” and “All You Need is Love” into the narrative, informing the storylines of the five lovable bugs.

“We’ve seen the magical world of Beat Bugs come to life on screen the last three years, and now it’s time to bring our stories to life onstage,” said Wakely in a release. “Our live musical will affirm the simple, yet profound life lessons that are at the heart of these iconic songs. Round Room’s reverence for the stories and the music within its productions is perfectly in sync with our own, and they’re an ideal partner to bring Beat Bugs to the stage.”

Beat Bugs premiered on Netflix and won an Emmy in 2016. After premiering its third season on the streaming service, fans will now get the chance to see their favorite characters in more than 80 cities across the U.S. and Canada.

Wakely secured the rights to The Beatles' “Northern Songs” catalog in a deal with Sony/ATV in order to create the series which introduces a new generation of music lovers to the Fab Four’s songs. Beat Bugs continues to feature popular contemporary artists who cover hits by The Beatles including Sia, Rod Stewart, James Corden, P!nk, Eddie Vedder and Jennifer Hudson. Since 2016, Republic Records in conjunction with Wakely’s label Melodia, has released four soundtracks for the series featuring these covers, available both digitally and physically.

“Our goal is to create a Beatles concert experience for kids, while transporting the audience to another world,” said Stephen Shaw, co-president of Round Room. “We’re delighted to be entrusted with bringing to life Josh’s incredible vision with Beat Bugs Live!”
