Sony Music Entertainment on Thursday (Jan. 24) announced a worldwide talent development pact with Chris Zarou, music entrepreneur and manager for Logic, Jon Bellion and others.

Together, they'll launch the new Sony Music imprint Visionary Records. Zarou, who also heads up independent artist management company Visionary Music Group, will serve as CEO of the new label, based in New York. Sony Music will distribute the label's signings.

Visionary is the latest example of Sony getting into business with star managers whose biggest acts might be signed to other labels. (Logic is signed to Def Jam, a Universal Music Group imprint. ) Previously, Sony gave Adam Alpert his Disruptor Records joint venture while the Chainsmokers were still signed to UMG's Republic. Sony also gave Jason Owen keys to Monument Records, even though all his acts at the time were part of the UMG family.

“We are delighted to be partnering with Chris to identify and develop emerging artists through Visionary Records," says Rob Stringer, CEO of Sony Music. "He is a highly driven and futuristic young career builder, and we look forward to an exciting relationship.”

Adds Zarou: “I’m so grateful for the opportunity that Rob Stringer has given me. I look forward to the challenge ahead and building both career and global artists with Sony Music’s amazing teams. Artist development will continue to be at the core of our business at Visionary Records, and we are thrilled to partner with artists who will push boundaries and shape the landscape of music for years to come.”
