Scottish Comic Beats Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran in Ticketmaster UK Fan Vote For 'Ticket of the Year'
P!nk & Spice Girls voted most anticipated shows of 2019
Scottish comedian Kevin Bridges was voted the Ticket of the Year by Ticketmaster fans in the UK, maneuvering into the top spot above Ed Sheeran and Taylor Swift who landed at No. 3 and 4, respectively for their Wembley Stadium dates. Bridges earned the title of Ticket of the Year for his SSE Hydro show in Glasgow, Scotland on his sold-out Brand New tour.
Rounding out the top five shows to Ticket of the Year were Hamilton at Victoria Palace Theatre at No. 2 and Sheeran ranking again at No. 5 for his stop at Hampden Park National Stadium.
"Thank you to everybody who came out to see me live this year and a very special thank you to those who went as far as voting for me as their favourite show of the year,” said Bridges, who is the first comedian to ever win the honor, in a release. “It's been a while since the result of a vote has made me happy. You have restored my faith in democracy. Thank you all and see you another time.”
Bridges’ recent tour earned him the 'Gie It Laldy' award from SSE Hydro, recognizing his contribution to the live event industry, having sold more tickets to the venue than any other solo artist.
Ticketmaster UK also surveyed fans on the most anticipated shows of 2019. P!nk’s Beautiful Trauma stadium tour that kicks off at Principality Stadium in Cardiff, Wales for six nights before a two-night run at Wembley Stadium in London won for the most anticipated event of 2019.
“What an honor from my beautiful UK fans! A HUGE thank you to everyone that voted for the Beautiful Trauma tour as the Ticketmaster Most Anticipated Event for 2019,” P!nk said in a release. “It’s been nearly five years since I’ve toured the UK – I can’t wait to get back and party with all of you!”
After P!nk, fans are most excited to see the Spice Girls reunion dates, Muse, Fleetwood Mac and Take That next year. Ticketmaster reports that well over 700,000 fans were in the digital queue at one point to purchase Spice Girls tickets, setting a sales record for the company.
For Global Ticket of the Year, BTS nabbed the top spot from votes around the world. Sheeran and Netherlands festival Pinkpop rounded out the top three.
In the U.S., Bruce Springsteen took home the honor for Ticketmaster’s 2018 Event of the Year for his historic sold-out performances of his one man show Springsteen On Broadway at Jujamcyn's Walter Kerr Theatre in New York.
Following her highly successful Reputation tour in North America, Swift took home Artist of the Year in the U.S. Prior to the Reputation tour dates, over one million Taylor Swift fans registered on her Verified Fan portal, Taylor Swift Tix.
Ariana Grande has the most anticipated U.S. tour of 2019 which kicks off on March 18 at the Times Union Center in Albany, N.Y. New York also beat out Chicago and Nashville for the most popular city for live music.
