European indie powerhouse Because has acquired a 50 percent stake in Super!, one of France's leading promoters. Terms were not disclosed for the deal, which sees Super! join promoters The Talent Boutique (Metronomy, London Grammar), PiPĂ´le (Jorja Smith, LCD Sound System) and Corida as part of Because's live music arm, the Corida Group.

Launched 12 years ago by Julien Catala, Super! specializes in rock, alternative, folk and electronic artists and promotes a number of French festivals including Pitchfork Music Festival Paris, Biarritz en Ete and Normandy's Cabourg Mon Amour.

Its domestic roster includes The xx, Disclosure, Bon Iver, Mumford & Sons, Jungle, Nicolas Jaar, Caribou, M83 and Four Tet, as well as French acts Polo & Pan, Lewis Ofman and Songe. The Paris-based company additionally exec produces Red Bull Music Festival and runs monthly live events for Les Inrocks and La Fondation Louis Vuitton.

"In a globalized industry with multinational operators, being part of an independent group remains crucial to the Super! concept and the whole team," said Catala in a statement announcing the deal. He said the partnership with Corida will enable Super! to grow and expand as part of an "independent, innovative and modern network."

Corida Group MD Olivier Darbois called Super! a "fantastic addition" to the company and said, "together, we can be a real alternative, and attract the most talented independent acts touring France and Europe with a world class level of service."

Corida was founded in 1991, became part of the Because Group in 2004 and promotes Radiohead, Rammstein, Kraftwerk, Eric Clapton, Ben Harper, Phoenix, Justice and Christine and the Queens in France. It also looks after international tours for a number of French acts including Justice, Christine and the Queens, Air and Charlotte Gainsbourg, and owns a controlling interest in the We Love Green and Peacock festivals.

Looking ahead, Because Music Group founder Emmanuel de Buretel said the addition of an "imaginative entrepreneur" like Julien Catala to the business will be "an important asset" for Corida Group "and we look forward to building synergies across the Because umbrella."
