Erica Grayson to Lead SOCAN A&R Initiatives in Los Angeles: Exclusive

Erica Grayson has been appointed senior A&R executive at SOCAN (Society of Composers, Authors and Music Publishers of Canada), Billboard can exclusively reveal. Based in SOCAN’s new Culver City, Calif. office, the music industry veteran is tasked with building various program platforms to better service SOCAN members living in and traveling to Los Angeles while increasing SOCAN’s profile in the U.S. market.

“Erica’s joining the team to lead our A&R initiatives and membership presence in Los Angeles is a big win for SOCAN,” says SOCAN director of A&R membership Rodney Murphy. “Her vast experience with nurturing and supporting songwriters, screen composers and music publishers, combined with her extensive knowledge of the U.S. market, will go a long way to help SOCAN members and their careers in L.A. As a leader in her field, Erica cares about creators, their story and their craft. It’s all about serving our members, while helping them achieve success in their home away from home within our growing community members in Southern California.”

Drake, The Weeknd, Shawn Mendes, Alessia Cara, Daniel Caesar and Murdabeatz are among the more than 150,000 songwriters, composers, music publishers and visual artists comprising SOCAN’s membership roster ( The rights management organization is headquartered in Toronto, with additional branch offices located in Montréal and Vancouver as well as subsidiary offices in New York and Seattle.

“I’m looking forward to contributing to such an already amazing company as SOCAN and its impressive roster of members,” says Grayson, who will be working in tandem with the rest of the company’s A&R team in Toronto, Vancouver and Montreal. “Canada has clearly been making its impact on the global music market.”

As a consultant for the last several years in the realms of A&R, publishing, film and television, Grayson has teamed with various companies within and outside the U.S. including Sony, A&M, OVO, Motown and Atlantic. While serving as VP of A&R at Interscope, she worked on projects by Mary J. Blige and the songwriting duo Rock City. A former member of the board of governors for the Recording Academy’s L.A. Chapter, Grayson is also an ASCAP Women in Music honoree.
